Anish Giri: I am not allowed to mess with the Carlsen-Niemann final #TweetOftheDay

Anish Giri did not qualify for the Julius Baer Generation Cup Knockout stage due to unfortunate results in the last round of the prelims. Giri won his last game against Arjun Erigaisi to score 21 points and it was almost certain he will take the seat for the Knockout. However, Levon Aronian won the losing endgame against Vassily Ivanchuk scoring the same number of points – 21, while Christopher Yoo defeated Le Quang Liem to reach the same score. Additional criteria was the direct encounter, so Christopher Yoo came 7th, Levon Aronian 8th, while Giri finished the prelims in the 9th place.

Commenting on chess24.com’s tweet about his victory against Erigaisi: “Anish Giri wins on demand!”, Giri said: “…and doesn’t qualify, cause the whole thing is RIGGED and I am not allowed to mess with the Carlsen-Niemann final“. See the tweet below
