Ju Wenjun defeats Yifan Hou in the 2023 Chinese Finals

The 2023 Chinese Women finals were played March 30 – April 2 in Shenzhen, China. The event was a 16 player tournament with Yifan Hou, Guo Qi, Ju Wenjun, Zhao Shengxin, Huang Qian, Zhao Xue, Xiao Yiyi, etc. The event consisted of preliminary rounds, quarter final, semi final and final.

Ju Wenjun defeated Yifan Hou 2,5-1,5 in the final to win the gold medal. In the semi final Yifan Hou won against Zhao Shengxin 3,0-1,0, while Ju Wenjun was victorious against Guo Qi with the same score.

The news that Yifan Hou is coming back to competitive chess during the Satty Zhuldyz Chess Festival 2023 was met with excitement in the chess community. But the return of Yifan Hou actually happened in the just finished 2023 Chinese Finals, that were unfortunately not broadcast on any platform. The good news is that Yifan Hou will also be part of the Kazakhstan vs The World match, a parallel event to the Nepo – Ding 2023 match World Chess Championship 2023.
