Boris Gelfand wins the 35th edition of Leon Masters

The 35th edition of the Leon Masters took place over the weekend 8-10 July in Leon, Spain. The event gathered four world-class players: GM Viswanathan AnandGM Boris GelfandGM Andrey Esipenko and GM Jaime Santos and it was played as a 4-player knockout tournament.

Boris Gelfand won the event after a thrilling final match against the 15th World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand and got his small revenge for the World Championship Match loss from 2012. With the final result of 4-2, Gelfand clinched the 35th Leon Masters. Replay the games here

To reach the finals, Boris Gelfand defeated Andrey Esipenko in the Armageddon game, while Anand took off Jaime Santos Latasa after the rapid part of the match.
