Daniil Dubov and Valentina Gunina are Russian Chess Champions 2022 https://www.chessdom.com/daniil-dubov-and-valentina-gunina-are-russian-chess-champions-2022/ Fri, 23 Sep 2022 12:17:52 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=82876 The Superfinals of the 75th Russian Chess Championship and the 72nd Russian Women’s Chess Championship  simultaneously took place in Cheboksary from 10-23 September. The events are being held at the Chuvash State Art Museum, being held as part of the Chess in Museums program carried out by the Chess Federation of Russia and the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Foundation.

Both events were played as 12-player round-robin tournaments with Daniil Dubov and Valentina Gunina clinching the title of Russian Chess Champions 2022.

Daniil Dubov won the 75th Russian Chess Championship Superfinals after defeating Sanan Sjugirov in the tiebreak match. Both players scored 7/11 points to tie for the first place and the playoffs determined the winner. Two rapid games of the playoffs finished in a draw, as well as the Armageddon game, but Dubov claimed the title of the National champion as he had black pieces in the game of death. Valentina Gunina scored the important victory in the last round against Evgenija Ovod to emerge as the sole Winner of the 72nd Russian Women’s Chess Championship Superfinals with a score of 8/11 points. Gunina clinched her fifth National Champion title. Marina Guseeva clinched silver with 7.5 points, and Olga Girya came third with 6.5 points. See the final rankings below

Russian Championships Higher League concluded in Obninsk https://www.chessdom.com/russian-championships-higher-league-concluded-in-obninsk/ Thu, 07 Jul 2022 15:43:43 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=79485 The Higher League of the 75th Russian Championship and the 72nd Russian Women’s Championship took place from 25 June – 6 July in Obninsk. The top 5 finishers in each tournament received the right to play in the 2022 Russian Championships Superfinals. 

GM Sanan Sjugirov won the Open tournament scoring 6.5 points. Sjugirov had better tiebreaks than GM Vladislav Artemiev who catched the former with the last-round victory against GM Kobalia Mikhail, but claimed silver. GM Maksim Chigaev and GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov tied for bronze scoring 6 points, each, with tiebreaks criteria favoring Chigaev. The last qualifying spot for the Russian Superfinals went to GM Ilia Iljiushenok who scored 5.5 points and had best tiebreaks in a group of seven players who tied for the overall 5th position. Russian Women’s Championship Higher League got the sole Winner – IM Daria Charochika. Charochika scored unbeaten 7 points, being half point ahead of the runner-up FM Ekaterina Goltseva. As many as four players tied for the third place with 6 points each. IM Marina Guseva clinched bronze with best tiebreak criteria, IM Alina Bivol was fourth, WFM Mariya Yakimova took fifth place and the last spot for the Superfinals, while WIM Yana Zhapova came sixth and didn’t qualify for the last stage of the Russian National Championship. Sjugirov and Kulon are 2014 World University Champions https://www.chessdom.com/sjugirov-and-kulon-are-2014-world-university-champions/ Tue, 26 Aug 2014 14:18:35 +0000 http://www.chessdom.com/?p=35970 GM Sanan Sjugirov (Russia) and WIM Klaudia Kulon (Poland) are champions of the 13th World University Chess Championship 2014 that took place from 17th to 24th August 2014 at the Conference Center of the Park Hotel Diament Katowice in the splendid city of Katowice, Poland.

The top seeded Russian player GM Sanan Sjugirov shared first place in a three-way tie with GM Karen Grigoryan (Armenia) and GM Ivan Bukavshin (Russia) on 6,5 points each.

WIM Klaudia Kulon became a Polish star winning the Women’s Section with the impressive 8,5/9 points result. She finished with 8 victories and 1 draw, playing at performance 2699 and adding the amazing 69 (!) points to her rating.

The nearest followers ended far away behind, sharing second place on 6 points each. IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (Mongolia) took the silver on superior tie-break score, WGM Yixin Ding (China) grabbed the bronze, while WGM Marta Bartel (Poland) remained fourth.
