Billy Fellowes v CM Peter Lalic sparked controversy when it emerged that Lalic has aimed for this record for a few years, and already has several three-figure games recorded in databases.

That is the record for longest decisive chess game, and longer can only be found between computers here at TCEC. The longest decisive game at TCEC is between Lc0 and Fritz, total 308 moves

Can Magnus reach the rating of 2900? #TweetOftheDay https://www.chessdom.com/can-magnus-reach-the-rating-of-2900-tweetoftheday/ Mon, 30 May 2022 21:55:37 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=77020 World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has held the No. 1 position in the FIDE world chess rankings since 1 July 2011, and trails only Garry Kasparov in time spent as the highest-rated player in the world. Carlsen’s peak rating of 2882 is the highest in history, but can he make it to 2900?!

Carlsen is currently playing the Norway Chess 2022 which commenced today with the Blitz tournament. The classical and main part of the event kicks off tomorrow and could be a chance for Magnus to improve his rating. However, not even the perfect 9/9 score will make Carlsen reach 2900, but he would be six points close to that achievement. To avoid dropping rating points, Carlsen needs to score 6/9 points in the event.

More than 250 students and pupils listened to 35-minute lecture of the International School Chess Union president, PhD Aleksander Kostiev about the first chess world champion Wilhelm Steinitz with a demonstration of chess great’s games.

The record was verified by official representative of the World Guinness Records Christelle Bitrong. She handed a relevant certificate to RSSU rector, doctor of economics, member of RASN Natalia Pochinok.

The largest chess lesson

The necessary conditions were: lesson duration should have been more than 30 minutes and more than 250 people should have participated in the lesson.

– Our university is a forge of chess players and teachers, who organise chess activities, while RSSU Cup is the biggest tournament in Europe, the most powerful and interesting festival. And of course, the Festival like that must be accompanied by bright records and victories. Nomination for “The largest chess lesson”, which we’ve set a record at, is a union of university activities and our flag-sport – chess.
