The disgraceful comments of Ilya Smirin on women chess created a much deserved reaction from the chess community. Yet, FIDE does not seem to take any immediate action on the issue. Instead, FIDE’s Director General made the situation worse by saying, “I spoke to GM Smirin. He sincerely apologized, and promised to bring an apology on air tomorrow.”
MrDodgy immediately tackled Sutovsky’s blunder by sarcastically saying, “Thank you for holding your friend accountable whilst he keeps his well paid job” which was followed by Patricia Llaneza’s logical exclamation, “Why is he [Smirin] on air tomorrow?”
