WGM Nilufar Yakubbaeva wins the first women’s prize at the Abu Dhabi Masters

The 28th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival concluded today in the United Arab Emirates with 18-year-old Arjun Erigaisi triumphing the Abu Dhabi Masters 2022 (Read more: Arjun Erigaisi wins Abu Dhabi Masters 2022). In the competition of 148 players from 28 countries, 21-year-old WGM Nilufar Yakubbaeva won the first women’s prize scoring 5.5/9 points. With a rating performance of 2506, Nilufar earned her second IM norm.

After the slow start and two losses in the first two rounds, Yakubbaeva scored four victories and three draws against six titled players. She defeated IM Chukwudalu Okeke Isaac, IM Pranesh, GM Vishnu Prasanna, and IM Arash Tahbaz, and drew against Bobir Sattarov, IM Julien Song, and IM Mittal Aditya.
