Aleksandra Goryachkina: I think we surprised each other

Seed number one, and winner of the previous Women’s Grand Prix Aleksandra Goryachkina drew against her compatriot Polina Shuvalova in the first round. Goryachkina surprised her opponent in the opening with a sharp variation of the Scotch Gambit and explained in the post-game interview that she believes that the surprise was mutual: “I think we surprised each other!“.
