Carlsen – Niemann SCC 2024 match is the Yusuf Dikec of chess https://www.chessdom.com/carlsen-niemann-scc-2024-match-is-the-yusuf-dikec-of-chess/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 17:40:20 +0000 https://www.chessdom.com/?p=93292 Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec has taken the internet by storm with his ‘swag’ at the Paris Olympics 2024, which led to a sea of memes being shared across various social media platforms. Yusuf Dikec won only the silver medal… And almost no one remembers who won the gold.

Carlsen – Niemann repeats the pattern of Yusuf Dikec. The cheating allegations took the internet by storm in September 2022 (scroll down for the full story below, yes, including Elon Musk!). Now they meet in the Paris Speed Chess Championship SCC semi-final, a match that has the very special electric charge that the chess audience wants. Yet, chances are everyone will follow the semi-final and almost no one will care who gets the gold in the next round.
