Alexander Kamyshin is the new President of Ukrainian Chess Federation

The new Chairman of the Ukrainian Chess Federation is Alexander Kamyshin. The new chairman was elected at the 12th Congress of the Federation. The delegates made the decision unanimously. Alexander Kamyshin succeeds the previous president was Viktor Kapustin.

Alexander Kamyshin is the Minister of Strategic Industries and a top advisor to President Zelensky. The news of his election came on the day when Ukraine won a gold medal in the U10 European Youth Chess Championship and received a donation from Malcolm Pein and CSC.

The first important event for Alexander Kamyshin will be the upcoming Chess Olympiad 2024, where Ukranian teams are seeded 14th in the open section and 5th in the women section

Pavel Eljanov commented, “Today the new president of Ukrainian Chess Federation was elected: Alexander Kamyshin, the minister of Strategic Industries in Ukraine. Definitely, good news since our previous management was a total disaster for many reasons (it’s too long to list). From my own experience, I quit the national team after Olympiad 2018 due to failure to fulfill obligations and unwillingness to fight corruption in the national team. Too many promising players quit the federation lately as well. I really hope that the new management will try to reveal professional chess.”
